Background: It started with a simple ask: Design a cannabis label that holds the attention of our audience. Topics could include science, philosophy, science fiction & fantasy, random facts — you know, nerd stuff.
The success of the Smarty Plants label (which explored various creation stories, mythology, and scientific theories) led to a series of illustrations based on blog themes, product strains, and even an adult coloring book.
These Smarty Plants illustrations were also reused in promotional videos and out-of-home displays that were written up in Adweek.

Coloring Book
The Smarty Plants Coloring Book built on the creation imagery of the label but extended into other themes including, music, space, love, nostalgia, science fiction, and more. Like the product label, it was designed as a continuous loop.
